Soaring

Doesn't this remind (well, if you're old enough) of the fictional seagull  in the famous book "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" of the early 1970s?  For Jonathan, life was all about flying, not about food or other cares.

This was incredibly lucky photo, panning with a telephoto lens to get a single shot as "Jonathan" soared by.  I don't think that "studio lighting" could match the perfect effect of the sunlight on the wings and tailfeathers.

Since that lucky day at Carmel River Beach,  I've tried and tried to capture other seagulls on-the-fly (without a motor drive); mostly it's a fruitless waste of film.  Fun to try, though!
