The 2004 Big Sur

 International Marathon

Special! The BSIM 2004 "A Wonderful Memory" Photo Collage!

Sunday, April 25, was the day of the 20th Big Sur International Marathon (and, we should add, the BSW -- Big Sur Walks), and a gorgeous day it was, although a bit warmer than marathoners would like.. Before the race began, a low fog played footsie with Hurricane Point., rising above the road. But the sun beat it back, and by the time the "Power Walkers" arrived at the Little Sur River, the fog was a thin layer rising only a hundred feet above the ocean.

The photos are arranged as taken "along the journey".  It took a while to climb to the top above Hurricane Point, because of  chest high poison oak and brush --- but the view was rewarding.  At Bixby Bridge, Ric Masten, the Poet Laureate of Bug Sur (and this year's honored BSIM Poster and Shirt artist), danced a jig while the Grand Piano Man played. Near Rocky Point, the Andrea's Fault trio played and sang beautiful and heartfelt music, while near the finish the "Big Sur Natives" played and danced and cheered everyone on.

As usual, the BSIM held to its claim as "The Musical Marathon".
